CIGD is a group debriefing process for dealing
with the impact of traumatic events. The process focuses on helping those involved
in a critical incident to share their experiences, vent emotions and learn about stress
reactions and symptoms. The goal of CIGD is to mitigate the impact of a critical
incident and to assist the persons involved with recovery from the stress associated with
the event. The process usually
takes several hours and can be augmented by the workshop Caring for the Caregiver.
CTRIs philosophy is to first train people
who have close connections to the community, school or organization to be able to provide
CIGD internally. However, we recognize there
are times when there is not a trained facilitator able to implement this process. There are also situations where the existing crisis
response team is overwhelmed and requires the help from an outside facilitator to lead
them through the CIGD process. In these situations, CTRI is available to facilitate
CIGD.
